Prerequisites: 95-729 E-Commerce Technologies or work/implementation experience with web services, a program language course (such as C++ or C or Java), a Database course such as 95-703 Database Management, and 95-705 Telecommunications Management.
The Internet, in general, and the World Wide Web, in particular, have had a dramatic impact on how individuals and organizations transact goods and services. It has given rise to new organizational forms (e.g., virtual organizations) and markets which feature electronic transactions models in new categories of goods and services (e.g., order placement and fulfillment for digital products on information networks). These developments have potentially profound implications for society and raise several legal and policy issues that are yet largely unresolved (e.g., copyright, taxation). The purpose of this course is to provide students with an overview of the following topics which pertain to electronic commerce on the Internet.
