  • 6 units
  • Prerequisites: 95-703, Database Management

This course will explore and discuss the design, development, implementation and use of decision support systems (DSS), and how these systems can be applied to solve current business problems. The course will emphasize data management for DSS, and therefore will cover several fundamental data management building blocks in areas such as data warehousing and business intelligence.

The format of the course will be a combination of lectures and in-class exercises and/or lab activities. The lectures will be interactive and will cover topics such as data modeling for DSS, extraction/transformation/load (ETL) and business intelligence (BI). We will also explore the business application and project management aspects of these technologies. The hands-on sessions will expose students to a variety of enabling technologies for DSS, including tools to support data warehouse design and BI application development.
