Government and Non-Profit Scholarships

Students employed by U.S. federal, state, or local government or a non-profit organization are eligible to receive a 25% tuition scholarship. In order to qualify, students must provide written verification of employment on their employer's letterhead with the Application for Admission. The letter must be signed by the student's supervisor.

Students will be asked to submit verification of continued eligible employment to the MSIT program office annually.

MSIT Merit-Based Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to exceptional students joining the MSIT program based on the strength of their Application for Admission and demonstrated potential for advancing in their careers. Students who indicate interest in receiving financial aid on their Application for Admission are considered. A separate application is not required.

Regional Leaders Scholarship

The Heinz School offers a limited number of Regional Leaders Scholarships to incoming full and part-time students who have a demonstrated a commitment to the Pittsburgh community.

A separate application is not required, however, to be considered for the Regional Leaders Scholarship, applicants must submit a statement providing evidence of community participation and promotion. Applicants should specifically address two issues: 1) what role have you played as a leader in Pittsburgh and what impact have you had on the community? and 2) what vision or opportunities do you see for the future of Pittsburgh and how would your proposed course of study at Carnegie Mellon help you to affect change in the city? Participation in programs such as the CORO Fellows program, Leadership Development Initiative, Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP) ONYX Alliance, Pittsburgh Young Professionals, Ground Zero, as well as community outreach activities, volunteerism, and participation on non-profit boards are all excellent examples of dedication to the region.

Applicants are also required to submit one letter of recommendation - in addition to the three required for application to the university - from someone who can testify to the applicant's commitment to and impact on the community.
