Federal CIO Certificate Program

The CIO Certificate Program is a multidisciplinary program of eight specialized courses that focus on the needs of those responsible for information and technology management. It is specifically designed for CIOs, CTOs, their direct reports, and other executives with IT oversight responsibilities.

As part of the Federal CIO University, these programs directly address the executive core competencies adopted by the Federal Chief Information Officers Council. Courses are taught by Carnegie Mellon faculty and industry experts. Participants completing this program will receive a Federal CIO University Certification issued jointly by the Federal CIO University and Carnegie Mellon.

All courses are autonomous; you may register for one, several, or the complete certificate program.

Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) Executive Distance Learning

Enrollment in the CIO Institute's CIO Certificate Program is a prerequisite for the following customized curriculum and benefits.

The MSIT degree requires successful completion of 144 units, the equivalent of 12 semester-long courses. Under the CIOI-MSIT partnership, 24 units of elective credit will be granted for completion of the CIO Certificate, reducing the required number of units from 144 to 120. You can apply to the MSIT program after successfully completing at least two CIO Certificate modules or within one year of completing the entire certificate program. CIOI students who complete their certificate before completing 108 units of MSIT coursework are also eligible for a full MSIT tuition scholarship for their last 36 units.* All other MSIT distance curriculum requirements apply.
